Answers The SAP Internet Transaction Server is a tool which enhances the three-tiered R/3 architecture for use in the Internet. It combines existing Internet technology with R/3 technology and allows reliable access to SAP functions from the Internet or intranets. The ITS can handle complementary Web technologies to access R/3 data: Technology | Functionality | Way of communication | SAP GUI for HTML (ITS 4.6DC4 or Higher) | R/3 transaction screens are dynamically converted into HTMLpages. | SAPGUI interface | WebTransaction | R/3 transactions that can be called from an HTML page. | SAPGUI interface | WebRFC | R/3 function modules that can be called from an HTML page. | RFC protocol | WebReporting | Mechanism for linking to SAP reports and pre-generated lists from an HTML page. Links to the Web Reporting Browser, which displays R/3 report trees, are also possible. Web Reporting is implemented as a special-case WebRFC. | RFC protocol | ITS Flow Logic | Programming model where the dialog logic of an application resides on the ITS. | RFC protocol |
The ITS, together with the SAP@Web Studio and a package of IACs, is marketed and sold by SAP and is shipped with R/3. Documentation is available as follows: The SAP@Web Studio online documentation contains help on the SAP@Web Studio program, the complete IAC Implementation Guide, a Web transaction tutorial, HTML Business Language help, and the ITS Administration Guide. Since the SAP Internet Transaction Server software is shipped with R/3 and other SAP standard products, it is available at no extra cost. Additional costs result from Internet user licenses which are needed for ITS usage. In general, you need two software packages 1. SAP Internet Transaction Server 2. (optional) SAP@Web Studio (a tool for developing all R/3-external files needed to run an IAC Web transaction) The installation packages are shipped with R/3. Therefore, you can find the installation modules on the following CD-ROMs: R/3 Release | CD ROM | 3.1G to 4.0B | R/3 Presentation CD | 4.5 A or higher | R/3 Server Components CD |
In addition, you can find the latest patches on our Web site at http://service.sap.com/patches Path: SAP-ITS. The advantage of the new web site is that you can find the newest ITS versions and patches (if needed) and other SAP supported software. The complete Installation CD can be downloaded via http://service.sap.com/swcenter-inst Path: SAP-ITS The ITS installation process also installs a so-called IAC package. You could download it from http://service.sap.com/patches Path: SAP R/3 => R/3 Release => Binary Patches => R/3 ITS packages for R/3 (release version) This package contains all files needed by the ITS during operation: - Service files
(general service information, for example, login, R/3 System, name of R/3 transaction, and so on) - HTML templates
- Text and MIME files
As of January 2002, SAP has streamlined ITS maintenance by supporting only ITS releases 4.6D C4 and above. For further details, please check ITS Platform Matrix or SAP note 325616. Currently the WGate portion of the ITS is available for Apache HTTP Server on Linux/Intel and ( Solaris only on ITS 4.6DC4 & 6.10 version) . The AGate part of the reference port of Linux is available with ITS 6.20 (complete Linux: Wgate and Agate). Please check the platform matrix or the note 325616 for latest updates. With ITS 4.6D SAP released a new WGate for Apache Web Server on Linux/Intel the first time and soon later WGate on Linux with ITS 4.6D C4 now with ITS 4.6DC4 Wgate on solaris was released. It is available from http://service.sap.com/patches : SAP R/3 tree. Yes the ITS and the AGate can be set up in a MS Cluster. But you will not receive the benefits of clustering. For an application to appreciate the main cluster benefits the application must be "cluster aware" and have a "heart beat". This "heart beat" informs the MS Cluster software of the applications status. This then allows the Cluster to best deploy it resources. The ITS, and its sub components including the AGate were not written as "cluster aware" so the ITS can run on a cluster but will not take advantage of the cluster benefits. The MS cluster server software also takes up system resources that could be devoted to the application, in this case the ITS. So using MS cluster is not a beneficial solution. There is still the need for redundancy and load balancing. With this in mind SAP has re-architect the ITS at its lowest level. With the release of ITS 4.6D there is a simple, elegant and comprehensive solution for load balancing and fail-over with the ITS available. This solution does not need any outside software. It allows for multiple WGates to point at multiple AGates, with load distribution among them and redundancy. It depends on how the Local Director is configured and where in the landscape it is located. Basically, With ITS 4.6DC4 WGate itself can correctly forward a request to the corresponding AGate. No, not under any situation is this possible. Yes, this is a great solution for balancing the load on your web servers. With ITS 4.6DC4 the Local Director does not need to be configure to be IP aware (the request will tell any web server in the pool what application server has its current session request). The ITS is supported in order to work with R/3 back-end version that are still in maintenance. It is compatible with R/3 Releases 3.1I, 4.0B, 4.5B, 4.6B, 4.6C and basis release 4.6D, 6.10. As of release ITS 4.6D and SAP@Web Studio 4.6D is supported on Windows 2000. Windows XP Server version is currently under evaluation. The support starts with ITS 6.10 and SAP@Web Studio 6.10. See http://www.easymarketplace.de/?Area=SAPGenie/ for the latest patches You can download SAP-ITS with latest patches from SAP Service Marketplace: You can download SAP@Web Studio with latest patches from SAP Service Marketplace: SAP@webstudio 6.10 is currently under development. The ITS is downwards compatible, therefore the ITS release must be the same or higher than the used R/3 kernel release. That means that you can use the ITS released for SAP 4.6D with an older R/3 release (for example, 4.0B). There are three restrictions to this approach: 1. The R/3 release must be at least version 3.1I or higher. 2. You can only use Internet Application Components which have been shipped with the R/3 Release you are using. 3. ITS 6.10 patchlevel 4 could be installed in front of an lower SAP R/3 kernel release. As of January 2002, the support of ITS has been restricted to ITS 4.6D Compilation 4 (ITS 4.6DC4) and higher. Yes, ITS 6.10 patchlevel 4 could be installed in front of all lower R/3 kernel release( which are supported by SAP). Internet Application Components (IACs) are R/3 transactions, function modules and reports that can be called from a Web page. Web-enabled transactions and functions are called Web transactions and WebRFCs. Normal SAP reports and lists are Web-enabled by default. IACs run with the help of the Internet Transaction Server (ITS). Several standard IACs are shipped with R/3. Customers can use them as is or modify them to meet their requirements. Yes, you could use ASP and HTML Business in the same template, but it can NOT be processed by both the ASP engine and the ITS. So if you put ASP into your HTML Business templates it will be ignored. Web servers call one application and then receive the reply and forward it to the requester, they can not redirect from one "application" ASP or ITS to another. So from this it follows that renaming your templates with .ASP does not make them "ASP" pages, as a matter of fact if you rename your templates with an extension of .ASP the only thing that happens is that the ITS will not be able to find the templates. (It only looks for templates. HTML) The ITS is one of the cornerstones of SAP's mySAP.com offerings and strategy. The ITS is the key technology behind the following products, the Workplace, ESS, EBP, Online Store, Internet Sales, Retail Store, BW, CRM online store and many other Easy Web Transactions. There are many other SAP Products and Applications that are based on the ITS technology to interface from the web to R/3 and other SAP Systems. Customers can report technical problems to the Online Service System (OSS), application area BC-FES-ITS. If customers have questions about their own future projects, they should ask their nearest branch office for consulting support. For developers who want to become knowledgeable about creating IAC's please investigate BC440 Developing Internet Application Components. For course details, see SAP's public Web site or click here. In order to cope with the risen need for information on ITS-related topics, a new course schedule has been developed. From now on, there are several ITS courses for different users such as developers or administrators. Please see the ITS curriculum for details. No, this is not correct information. ITS is the web enabling component of the R/3 Enterprise. Planned, as of release SAP Web AS 6.30, ITS and Web AS will be integrated, this does not mean replacement of once Functionalities by other. Both will be available on a single box. This integration will improve your System Landscape and similar platforms. Perhaps, for customers who would like to use ITS only, they could use the stand alone ITS 6.30 which will be availiable at the sametime as SAP Web AS 6.30. As you are familar with the ITS architecture, ITS has two components WGate and Agate. As of release 4.6D C4 WGate part of ITS was available on ITS. In the next very few days WGate on solaris for ITS 6.10 will be available. you can find the latest ITS 6.20 information from SAP note 531617 and 517277. you can find the lastest ITS patches at http://service.sap.com/patches you can download the ITS complete CD installation at http://service.sap.com/swcenter-inst Yes. ITS now complete runs on Linux. you have to use ITS 6.20 release. Since ITS is release for Linux the first time, please read SAP note 517277. please refer to SAP Note 325616 or Platform support matrix under, Alias SAP-ITS -> SAP ITS product details -> Platforms supported. SAP Note 537320 Yes ITS is downward compatible with R/3 release. Please note that the lowest R/3 release is 3.1i.
