Revelation Software Concepts Pty Ltd (RSC), an SAP® software partner and creator of the widely used Rev-Trac® change control technology has released its new ‘Salt Apps for SAP’ solution. Salt is a free application platform to power and deliver innovative, highly useful ”mini-apps” to SAP developers, Basis and other project team members.

The initial release includes:

Version Vault App:

It keeps copies of custom object source versions safe but accessible, providing a centralized repository for custom ABAP and data dictionary objects from all SAP systems. This makes it easy for users to compare versions across systems, view objects and object code, and provide assurance that a persistent audit exists of all changes to all ABAP objects and data dictionary objects. Team members can easily browse all information through an intelligent hierarchy, or restore a system or run a refresh and keep a copy of the prior state for reference, comparison or audit.

Matrix App:

This app shows a matrix-like table of objects highlighting differences between existing systems and allowing drilldown to specific issues. Users can easily visualize any differences between object versions across the landscape, making object version reconciliation and system synchronization much easier and ensuring a valid QAS system for testing.

Match Box:

This app allows you to diff (compare) SAP objects enabling comparison of an object with another version of itself, or with a different object. Diff objects across systems, versions and even other objects and see the results as a unified view – highlighting lines and words added, deleted or changed.

WIP Window:

WIP Window shows all Work in Progress allowing you to more easily manage workloads and validate project time lines. Explore unreleased changes in Development as well as changes not yet moved to Production. WIP window shows you what is going on now, the change that you need to manage, test and deploy.

Cold Case:

Cold Case can help save money (or just clean up the Development Box) by identifying expensive work that may have been forgotten or abandoned. Not really a crime, but change that is not going to Production is costing time, money and causing confusion. Cold case will help you find and investigate all those changes and who created them.

Code Ferret

A “Google-like” app that searches the ABAP source code across all your SAP systems using the latest indexing and fast search technology.
Enter your search with wild cards and various other advanced search options and get ranked list output.

Life Saver

Life Saver automatically takes periodic snapshots of unreleased objects for an author to view, compare or salvage, even if the original system is lost. Every now and again, do you wish you could get your code back to a previous version created? Life Saver comes to the rescue! As you have been working, Life Saver was taking point-in-time snapshots of your active code, which you can now view, compare with the current version or restore to a better state.

Life Saver will not be available with the first release of Salt but will be available shortly after.

Watch Bot

Watch Bot sends email notifications when defined activity is detected. You simply set up a notification rule to monitor nominated objects and can even set up alerts to be sent when manual changes are detected in Quality Assurance or Production.

The development of apps will not stop at eight. “Consistent input from the user base on their specific needs will play a key role in helping determine what apps are developed and in what order the Salt team releases them.” said David Drake, RSC CEO and CTO.

The Salt platform runs as a plug-and-play virtual appliance, with the free version supporting up to three SAP systems. Additional fee-based subscriptions options are available in support of up to 20 SAP systems. The new Salt service and apps do not require users to have Rev-Trac installed to take advantage of the myriad benefits of the free new platform.
